Suitable Fabrics
Although it would be lovely to have reproduction fabrics to use for everything - or something at least historically accurate
- they can be either extremely expensive or almost impossible to find. I have, however, managed to find sites that either
carry appropriate fabrics, or do have some reproductions. Some can be dyed or printed to suit needs, and the only limitation
is the imagination.
Classic and appropriate fabrics for historical costuming, as well as a few that aren't, but are included because they're groovy
anyway. Site also carries threads, floss, and stays.
Quilting cottons, with a line of historic reproduction prints.
This site has a wonderful line of silk brocades, and the price seems pretty reasonable, considering. They also make reproduction
clothing, and carry lines of historically accurate woolens, cottons, and linens. The printed cottons are out of stock right
now, but they do reproductions of prints found in museums.
Manufacturers of reproduction textiles from the 17th through 19th centuries. Furnishing fabrics, carpets, and trims are available.
They also do specific fabrics for film, and the site has articles on historical textiles.
Reproduction Clothing
Made-to-order items, with a very few basic ready-to-wear items. Full colour gallery of their work, and there is also a contemporary
fashion boutique. Periods cover from medieval to Victorian, but they note they will do any request.
Big online catalogue (they have a paper catalogue, too, which I still get), full of reproduction and easy-to-wear items of
clothing, and much more. They carry weapons and armor, music CDs, books, pewter tablewear, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Prices aren't too bad, either.
Custom pieces for SCA, re-enactments, role-playing and so on. Also does fantasy pieces. Line includes headpieces and accessories.
Selection of Western-era inspired reproductions, including Levis. Items include pants, shirts, frock coats, and a lady's
wool cape.
Historically accurate clothing, both custom and ready-made.
Products for living history re-enactors - hats, stockings (!), and other clothing items, shoes, boots, and buckles; also
carries books, kitchen/cook wares, tents, and much more.
Another big online store, carrying Renaissance clothing and accessories. As well as a lot of other items, from armor to toys
to tapestries.
Very nice historically-accurate reproductions, including copies of clothing worn by Henry VIII and all of his wives. Rich
fabrics and details.
Reproduction Footwear
Custom shoes and boots (located in Germany), they specialize in historical reproductions - send for catalogue, as there is
no online gallery or store.
UK site - handmade footwear from prehistoric to late medieval periods.
Medieval and Renaissance reproductions, with a nice section of period footwear - custom orders available.
Handmade leather boots and shoes for the middle ages re-enactments. Eastern-influenced shoes also available, as are pouches
and Viking drinking horns
Civil War reproduction boots and shoes. Site also carries Civil War era reproduction weapons (kind of an odd mix!), books,
tents, a few clothing items, and even musical instruments.
Footwear for both Colonial and Civil War re-enactments, includes shoes for women and children, as well as men.
Reproduction cavalry boots, and other Civil War era military boots and shoes (high-topped boots and buckled shoes for women,
and wee boots for children).
Civil War period.
Gorgeous reproduction shoes and boots - Can-Can, Victorian, and Edwardian boots in several choices of leather and peau de
soie, even vegan options. Pricey, but entirely worth it. Also several styles of early-twentieth-century shoes.
Although this is a fairly big historical costume site, I've linked the footwear page because their boots and shoes are cool.
I think it's the bright, red leather, thigh high boots that caught my eye.
Medeival and Renaissance footwear. They will do custom work as well.
