I am a costume freak. A lazy (yet obsessive-compulsive) costume freak.

I have always had a fascination with clothes - I won't say I've always had good taste, necessarily, because after all, I grew up during the seventies and eighties. Which is not to say that I didn't like what I wore, either. Heh. Anyway, I've always loved the shapes and silhouettes of historical costume, I am a fool for colour, and texture gets me....well, I probably shouldn't say that here.

During all my years online, I have collected links to sites that have all kinds of information, plus others that contain the beautiful and lovely. Every time I get a notion in my head, that I might like to make one type of costume, or another, I go on a rambling search that can take days (or weeks), seining the deep waters of the "interweb" and coming up with bookmarks that lead me further into the depths. It's fun, and interesting, and I learn more all the time.

Amazon.com has been helpful too, over the years. In addition to the books I purchased while at FIDM, I have collected more books thanks to the thoughtfulness of periodic Amazon.com gift certificates (thanks to my in-laws!). Thus I've managed to acquire tomes that I might not otherwise be able to afford. Not to mention the gift books my in-laws have sent me, as well. Wonderful, wonderful books, full of pretty pictures and solid information and ideas.

I've also managed to win auctions on eBay, and have got my hands on a couple of good volumes that way.

Right now, I'm trying to be good about eBay, but the temptation is ever there! (I'm trying to avoid bidding on comics, right now, which is another subject entirely.)

So, let's start with some links, shall we?

As mentioned on another page, I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), in Los Angeles. I studied fashion design the first year, and costume design the second. As yet, I haven't done much with my expensive tutelage, but I have done a couple of things I'm proud of in recent years: I costumed a local, independently-produced, movie, and I made a wicked-cool costume, commissioned by a LARP enthusiast for her Vampire, The Masquerade gaming.

Best costume site EVER!
The absolute, bar none, best costuming site out there. Not only do I highly recommend it, it is a necessary resource for how-to's, bibliographies, research, and essays on costume making. Go there. Go there now!

Architecture and Interiors

Online portfolio - their specialty is period interiors, and site includes great images of not only their interior design, but antiques, joinery, and textiles.
Information on period authenticism, as well as products for the Victorian lifestyle. Site includes articles on fashions and history.

Just another one of my little preoccupations.
